 Position

  • Specialist position has a primary focus on the provision of clinical services. 

  • Opportunity to be involved in academic and teaching activities in close association with Deakin University academic and teaching staff. The Deakin University Medical School has a Rural Clinical School based in the town.

  • The position will be predominantly clinically focused, with some management functions associated with the role.

About the hospital: The Hospital is a fully integrated facility with a total of 282 beds (216 acute, 36 aged care and 30 mental health). Warrnambool Campus (212 beds) Hamilton Hospital provides acute, rehabilitation and mental health care, together with extensive outpatient and community services. Wards include medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, six bed critical care unit, dialysis, emergency, inpatient psychiatry, GEM and rehabilitation. There are three fully equipped operating theatres and a separate endoscopy suite.The hospital is considered one of the most modern and technologically advanced health services in regional Australia.

Role: Anaesthetist

  • To provide clinical expertise and excellent service in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine (including in-theatre, acute pain, preadmission clinic, delivery-suite, and other clinical and non-clinical duties as determined by the director of anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine)

Position:

  • Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer this role plays an important role in providing direction and guidance to the Anaesthetic group across a range of responsibilities.

  • The Department provides a Preadmission Clinic, Acute Pain Service and access to wide range of anaesthetic experience.

  • Reporting to the Unit Manager the successful applicant will be required to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team; apply theoretical knowledge and experience in determining the appropriate clinical diagnosis, investigations and treatment of patients; and supervise registrars/provisional trainees as appropriate, HMOs and interns in the Anaesthetics Department of the Hospital.

Role: Anaesthetist

The Position

  • Reporting to the Clinical Unit Head Anaesthetics, the Staff Specialist Anaesthetist will provide anaesthesia and related services to all interventional disciplines except Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery and Transplant Surgery.

About the Department / Hospital 

  • Anaesthetic Department is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) as a training site for anaesthetic trainees for up to 24 months of training time.

  • The Anaesthetic Department is located in the Interventional Suite complex and consists of the Anaesthetic team, a Departmental Secretary and Acute Pain nurses.

  • The Anaesthetic team consists of a number of fulltime and part time Specialist Anaesthetists, assisted by Registrars, who provide a wide range of services to both public and private patients.

  • Apart from delivering anaesthetic services in the Interventional Suite and pre-admission clinic, the Anaesthetic Department provides an Acute Pain Service and an Obstetric Anaesthesia service, as well as off-site services to Medical Imaging, Intensive Care and the Emergency Department.

The position

  • Clinical duties will include the provision of peri-operative anaesthetic and resuscitation care of in-patients, including anaesthesia and analgesia services to patients in the birth suite, operating theatres, wards, ICU and the emergency department.

  • Actively participate in the coordination of weekly Pre-anaesthetic Outpatient Clinics and take part in the organisation and coordination of departmental non-clinical education and quality assurance activities. Provide high quality care both in and after-hours and participate fully in the activities of the department.
